Safe ascent and descent with snowshoes in moderate terrain! For members with summer mountain fitness who are new to snowshoeing. You receive instructions for the use of the equipment: safe ascending and descending with snowshoes, avalanche awareness and transceiver work, as well as search and rescue techniques.

The following is a typical schedule with the guide fine tuning the plan according to the prevailing weather conditions and the experience of the group:
DAY 1: From Innsbruck take the train to Steinach and bus 4145 to Obernberg. First you have to rent your equipment at Die Börse in Innsbruck. Showshoes can be rented directly at Almis Berghotel. Welcome at Almi´s Berghotel. After dinner: Preview of the activities of the week.
DAY 2: Introduction to standard equipment for snowshoeing. Training tour technique for walking uphill, learning about slope angle and snow types, how to use avalanche emergency equipment: transceiver search, probing, shovel strategy. Planning the next day.
DAY 3-5: Training snowshoe tours. Exercises on tour: avalanche bulletin, how to find the best track uphill and the best run downhill, standards in ascent and descent, avalanche rescue scenario (transceiver search, pin point, shovel strategy), forms and nature of terrain, orientation and weather observation. Planning the next day.
DAY 6: Final snowshoe tour to a low summit. After dinner: reflections on the week.
DAY 7: Farewell after breakfast
In the evenings there will be theoretical units on how to plan a snowshoe tour and safety issues: avalanche awareness based on the AV strategy Stop or Go and alpine weather.

We must carefully follow all national and local guidance regarding travel restrictions and social distancing. All participants must have face masks, hand sanitiser and alcohol wipes. In addition, for any courses which use mountain huts, all participants must bring their own sleeping bag, pillow case and towels and observe 1m distance in shared facilities. Face masks must be worn at all times except when eating or sleeping.
